Wedding Celebrants in Melbourne

Do you know where to start looking for a wedding celebrant in Melbourne? If not, then this post is for you. Wedding celebrants can be difficult to find if they are not well known or advertised.

With so many weddings happening in Australia, it's no surprise that couples are looking for celebrants in Melbourne to help them organise their big day. Whether you're a bride or groom-to-be and want someone who can officiate your wedding, or if you're looking for someone who can write your vows and conduct the service, we have everything you need.

Finding a celebrant in Melbourne is not an easy task. There are hundreds of different people to choose from, and it can be difficult to know what you're looking for. Do you want someone who does only civil ceremonies? Someone who has officiated at multiple weddings before? Do you want them to come prepared with their own materials or would you prefer that they use yours? We've compiled a list of the best wedding celebrants Melbourne couples have found so far. Hopefully this will make your search easier!

What is the role of a Marriage Celebrant? Put simply, a celebrant is a person who performs and officiates formal ceremonies –such as weddings, vow renewals, baby naming, or even funerals and memorials. By booking a Celebrant for your service, you can have the vows you want, the music you want, the readings you want.

Is my Celebrant Wedding Ceremony legally binding? No. You will need to register your marriage in a Register Office before or after your celebrant wedding ceremony in order to make your marriage legally binding.

Brief Description of the Role of a Celebrant Civil celebrants conduct civil (non-religious) marriage ceremonies, funerals, commitment ceremonies, namings and other ceremonies, as well as maintain appropriate records. Civil celebrants may perform the following tasks: ensure legal paperwork is correct and submitted

When you book a celebrant you're not just booking someone to rock up on the day of the wedding and do a quick ceremony. You're booking the main supporting character for your wedding day. Your celebrant will be there for you before you book them to after the wedding day.

The current annual average gross income for independent civil celebrants from wedding work is approx. $6,000 per annum. In 2018, the average number of weddings per annum is ten (10) weddings per year. Certainly, after expenses, many celebrants do not make a reasonable hourly rate for this work.

    The Full Shebang!

    ‘Give us our love story!

Give us the bells and definitely give us the whistles... (wolf whistles preferably!)’

This is the package where we go all the way and I deliver a ceremony that’s unique, fun, punchy and most importantly… YOU!

I’ll sort all the paperwork to ensure you’re legally married because, well that’s my job!

I’ll also help you with your vows if you want, give you a plethora of ceremony ideas to think about, loan you my PA for the occasion and by the end; have your guests asking how we know each other because by the time I strut out the door; everyone will think we’re best buddies!

I’ll dress up, I’ll dress down, I’ll be your ultimate wing-woman and together we can make it whatever YOU want it to be.

    The sky’s the limit baby!

    Fancy a Quickie?

Hold the confetti; just get us married!

Don’t want all the fuss, focus and cost of a big affair and prefer to cut to the chase?

You might be interested in a quicky!

I’ll still rock up to whatever sized wedding you’ve planned, armed with charm, wit and fabulous heels… but this ceremony will be short, sharp & punchy and you’ll have your hand wrapped around a congratulatory glass of champers before you can say ‘I do!’

    Another option is the elopement.

Are you having a big fat ceremony overseas? Or prefer to keep your nuptials private?

This option is bare-bones with just you two, two witnesses and myself in a  park/restaurant/clifftop/hotel room in Elwood or St Kilda. Week days or nights only.

    Boom! You’re married!

    MC in da House!

Looking for an MC that’s funky…

fast-on-her-feet, unflappable and just like one of the family?

More and more couples are getting me to MC the reception because it’s kind of a short straw for a mate to do the honour.

They can’t really drink, relax or sneak off and they’re doing it all for free!

I’ll take that guilt away and charge you for my time, and in exchange you get to feel secure in the knowledge that someone who knows how to run the show, is running the show!

I come from a background of MC’ing theatre & events and know all about working with fluid run sheets, trouble-shooting tricky situations and being the person that everyone can go to for whatever they might need.

I’m like the responsible but hilarious relative.

    I’m perfect for this gig!

    A Little About Me

Do you dream of your wedding day, envision your ceremony, and stop and think, “How can I make this happen?” Well, good news, so do I!

As a self-confessed ‘people person’ and a ‘hopeless romantic’, being a Civil Celebrant is my dream job. For me, having the privilege to marry two people who love each other more than anything else on the planet is the most inspiring, fulfilling, heaps of fun and full-of-surprises job I could ever imagine.

Being a Celebrant allows me to use all of the skills and talents I’ve honed through rewarding careers in my working life. I’ve been involved with the Education, Entertainment and Corporate Training sectors, all of which I draw from to give my couples the beautiful wedding ceremonies they deserve.

I value and understand the importance of professionalism, while also understanding how important it is to breathe fun and romance into such a special moment in time.

    Why I Love My Job

I never get ‘bored’ with my job. I absolutely adore getting to know each couple, and in their own way, all of them teach me something about life and love.

As a celebrant, I get to know and meet amazing couples and their families and share in a life-changing moment they’ll never forget. That, for me, is the epitome of the perfect job. Of course, the fantastic music, stunning locations and the powerful emotions of the moment only add to the reasons I love what I do.

I Want to Be a Part of Your Day!

I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of your wedding day! Whether you choose to have your ceremony in your lounge room or in a grand chateau, I want your day to be the best day of your life! Nothing brings me more joy than to see huge smiles on my couple’s faces.

When you decide to work with me, I don’t just show up to your ceremony and read from a script. I will look after you the entire way through your wedding plan and work alongside you to prepare for your marriage ceremony—ultimately the most important part of your wedding.

I will wave my magic wand of experience to de-mystify and handle all of the legal stuff while offering up heaps of resources and ideas to inspire your ceremony. You have enough to stress over, so let me help you out by handling the complicated side of things. I’ll put my skills to work to create a ceremony which is much more personal than you might think possible.

I have some special skills too. I speak French and Italian. If you have family or friends coming from France or Italy and want to make them feel right at home, I am very happy to integrate these beautiful languages into the ceremony.

Some might say that I have a flair for the dramatic, and rightly so. I’ve spent many years as a Drama and Theatre teacher, and as such I take great pride in engaging your guests through your ceremony with warmth, sincerity, style and confidence.

When you decide I’m the perfect fit for your ceremony, we will share stories, ideas and laughter as we plan your ceremony to the last detail.

Together, we can create a ceremony that perfectly suits your values, needs and personality. One that you can be proud of and love remembering over and over.

My promise to you is that I will do everything in my power to ensure your day is magical, stress-free, and truly a day you’ll never forget!

I am flattered you’d consider my services for your wedding ceremony, so please get in touch as soon as you’ve picked out your wedding date!

I can’t wait to get you married!

    Rohan Smith Celebrant Wedding Melbourne

    Marriage wedding specialist

Hi, my name is Rohan and at the risk of stating the obvious, I'm a marriage celebrant.

I've been lucky enough to have played a small (but I like to think important) part in wedding ceremonies both in and outside of Australia. I'm a big believer in not making things more complicated than they need to be, so my approach to planning the perfect ceremony is straightforward and relaxed. Getting married should be fun and stress free and with me as your celebrant, that's exactly what you'll get.

With a decade of experience as a writer and radio announcer, I'm all about taking the time to find out who you both are as a couple, which allows me to write marriage ceremonies that are as memorable as they are enjoyable.

Every great wedding begins with an unforgettable ceremony, so I customise each ceremony, telling a story that reflects your personalities and experiences. No awkward or boring moments, just a great ceremony that will be talked about for years to come.

I'm based in Kensington and am up for officiating at weddings all over Melbourne, the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and beyond.

Getting married is as easy as...

Give me a call. I’ll take you through the process step by step. We’ll organize a time to meet up in person.

You can throw as many questions at me as you like. I’ll show you how everything works and throw around some ideas for you to think about.

Go ahead and book me in for your date.

I’ll take care of all the paperwork and legal stuff. I’ll write you a great ceremony that will be talked about for years to come. We’ll run through everything at a rehearsal before the big day. You can reach me anytime by phone or email.

I’ll deliver said great ceremony full of laughs... and possibly a few tears. You head off to enjoy your honeymoon!

Leaving me to submit all of the boring (but important) legal stuff!

    Let's Get Married Celebrants Melbourne

    Professional Celebrant Melbourne

    Let's Get Married

In the 1800s, Jane Austen the Author wrote of romance and life.

In the 21st Century, Jane Austin the Marriage Celebrant writes marriage ceremonies of romance and special lives, for every bridal couple has their own special love story...

Congratulations on getting married! Now where do you start? The first thing you need to do is to consider what sort of wedding would you like? A formal wedding? A church perhaps? A relaxed/informal wedding – maybe even a wedding where you surprise your guests! Now you need to work out which venue will suit your wedding vision the best and then there's the choice of Celebrant. You want a Celebrant who is as passionate about your wedding as you are and someone who will work hard to make the whole process really easy for you.

    Surprise Weddings

We all know organising a wedding can sometimes be a stressful experience, that is why Surprise Weddings can work so well, just ask Anna and Shawn. After 14 years and two beautiful daughters together, they decided, when holding a 40th Birthday Party for Anna to make it even more special by surprising all their guests by getting married. Jane turned up early and helped Anna and Shawn put the final touches to the tables before Anna went out the back to change and 'hide' and Shawn and Jane used their 'developed story' to explain why Anna was late.

" Jane was an excellent celebrant! Attentive, organised, a great listener, extremely helpful and not overbearing at all. When ever we needed advice or help she was there - and went the extra mile. She deconstructed the whole process and made it very simple for us. She put everyone at ease on the special day and is an excellent orator. We would recommend her to anyone.

" Everyone said it was the best wedding they'd ever been to and it was just like we wanted it to be.

    John Beck Celebrant Wedding Melbourne

    Marriage wedding specialist celebrant

What are you looking for in a Melbourne Celebrant?

Well, I’m a high school dropout, but look at me now! I’m bald with glasses and can change your life forever.  You will like working with me because I’m friendly, house trained, trustworthy, enthusiastic, helpful, reliable, organised, perfectionist have a dry sense of humour and was a wedding DJ for 25 years.  And that’s pretty much me in a few sentences.

What do you want your ceremony to be like?

One thing most couples I work with all have in common is they value their marriage ceremony as much as I care about creating a ceremony you will enjoy; They want it to be light-hearted, memorable with a few laughs, maybe a few soppy bits and not too long. But still thoughtful and respectful without making it boring for the guests. They want to celebrate and enjoy a ceremony that is uniquely theirs with their families and closest friends. Do you want to enjoy the ceremony? If so we better have a chat.

Hello and Welcome! I’m John Beck your Melbourne Marriage and Wedding Celebrant. The easiest way to get to know me and what I have to offer is to sit back relax and read the website.

I’m friendly, house trained, like a pair of nice fitting slacks and rarely bite.

As the MC at over 500 weddings, I learnt the art of being a storyteller and how to engage and hold people’s attention. It has given me confidence and ease, which shows on my face and in my body language. All these skills have transferred perfectly into being a Celebrant.

I don’t MC anymore because I love being a celebrant, I love it with all my heart. When I’m at a ceremony, I feel connected to something incredibly special. Helping you create a Ceremony that leaves you feeling happy knowing you have genuinely celebrated your love and friendship with your family and closest friends is what I was designed to do.

Together we will enhance your ceremony experience and have fun creating a marriage ceremony, one you can look back on that was an accurate reflection of who you are as a couple.

I’ve been married for over 25 years with five fur-children, two dogs (Grace and Sam) and three cats (Stanley, Reggie and Poppy).

    Stress Free Wedding Ceremony

It’s not what a marriage celebrant does; it’s how they do it that makes the difference.

Do you want to be able to look at your Celebrant on your wedding day and know that they have everything under control, so you can relax and enjoy the ceremony?

Your marriage ceremony will be one of the happiest and most emotional events of your life, not to mention the most organised; you’ll want everything to run smoothly, without a second thought from you on the day. You’re going to need to appoint a celebrant who cannot only marry you but coordinate, and be responsible for the entire wedding ceremony.

Also, you want to have some connection with the Celebrant so they can look at you and be able to make you feel as calm as possible on the day.

Well known for my decades of work in the creative and performing arts as a Writer, Director and Producer, I have been called an influencer and change agent.  I love empowering people and ideas.

I have an Associate Degree in Theology and am passionate about social issues and their practical implications.

What makes an amazing, heartfelt and memorable wedding that everyone loves?

    Thoughtfulness and a great celebrant.

Today the proportion of marriage ceremonies performed by civil celebrants has continued to increase.  In 2014 registered celebrants performed 74.1% of all registered marriage ceremonies.

Ceremonies today are done in the forest, on the beach, in churches, by waterfalls, in back yards by rivers and in gardens.  It is limited only by your imagination and creativity.  A good celebrant will quickly resonate with you, they will totally comprehend your vision for your wedding and if you are not sure yourself  of what you want a good celebrant will dig for the gold in you both and bring out the best in you to make your day the best day possible.

These are the most important elements that make a memorable wedding ceremony:

    • Your wedding is personal and reflects your character, romance and personality.
    • It is crafted to have moments of wonder and surprise.
    • It is unique.
    • Your friends and family are taken along on the journey with you. The worst thing is when the audience feel awkward, uncomfortable or disconnected.
    • Transitions in the wedding ceremony are crucial. This takes practice and skill but when done properly it makes the ceremony feel effortless and people are taken on a smooth and meaningful journey.
    • Well thought out, practised and communicated. This prevents cringe moments or train wrecks and puts your nerves to rest.
    • Time management. Nothing is worse that everyone waiting for 20 min for the bridal party to arrive.  I attended one wedding where the bride arrived first and no groom.    Panic and terror set in.
    • No alcohol. Not only is it in very poor taste, the marriage can be contested or actually not legitimate if either party are drunk. The celebrant can also refuse to do the ceremony.
    • Your wedding doesn’t have to be elaborate to be successful. It is all in the planning and execution.  Sometimes the most beautiful wedding are simple and sweet.  The main ingredient is authenticity.  It must accurately reflect who you are and your lives together.

    Margaret Collier Celebrancy Melbourne

    Marriage celebrant Melbourne

Hi my name Margaret Collier and I am a Commonwealth Registered Marriage Celebrant and I have been a celebrant for the past ten years, filled with romance, excitement, glamour and challenges. With officiating over 900+ ceremonies, each of those ceremonies were unique in their very own way, I look forward in being part of your day. Honestly, I love what I do, I’m a vibrant, easy-going, passionate, professional person and often told that I have a very calming nature which really helps on your big day.

Your wedding day is one of the most important days in your life and choosing the right celebrant that you feel comfortable with is very important, I hope that will be me. I would love the opportunity to make your special day just perfect. Your ceremony should reflect who you truly are and celebrate the love and happiness you have. Whether you are eloping or having a small/large wedding. I take the time to get to know the couple, their personalities, their relationship and what is important to them and their marriage.

Weddings don’t have to be expensive, we all want value for money and I advise couples not to choose a celebrant just solely on costs. Your ceremony is so important as it sets the vibe for the whole day, without a registered celebrant you are not legally married and I would be a minimal cost of your day.

I have tailored affordable packages, to ensure your wedding is carried out perfectly without adding too much to what could already be an expensive wedding. I’m willing to travel to your dream location, to join two beautiful souls who are very much in love. I value your input and ideas and along with mine and listen to what you may not want, we can work together to make your day just perfect with lasting memories.

    What You Can Expect

Commitment, organised and professionalism throughout the ceremony. I’ll make your day magical, wonderful, and memorable beyond your imagination. I take extreme care to ensure that your special day goes smoothly and as pre-planned.

    celebrants Melbourne

The Melbourne Marriage Celebrant for anyone in love. Lise Rodgers is ready to create your wedding memories in a beautifully written ceremony that will tell your love story.

For me, that’s what being a Marriage Celebrant is all about. Creating ceremonies that celebrate you – who you are as individuals, who you are as a couple. All the little moments you’ve shared along the way.Your personalities, your style, your values, your sense of humour.

That’s why, they are all unique.

Relaxed and simple, light hearted and fun, small and intimate or formal and traditional – it’s whatever suits you. Never overly long and definitely never boring! Always warm, genuine and completely engaging.

Telling your story in a way that everyone can enjoy – and always delivered with style, wit, elegance and grace. Well dressed, well prepared and well spoken – as you’d expect from a professional Melbourne wedding.

    Getting Married by Lise Rodgers

“So what do we have to do to get married? I’ve never done this before and I don’t know where to start.”

Couples ask this question every week and at its simplest, getting married is both a commitment of the heart and a commitment under law, so the answer breaks down into 2 parts – The Legal requirements to get married in Australia and Melbourne Marriage Celebrant guide to planning your wedding ceremony,

I’m here to make the whole thing as easy as I can, setting up a manageable time line so you’ll know what has to be done when and helping you through any problems that might arise. Offering advice and information if you need it and happy to share my experience as one of the busier Marriage Celebrants in Melbourne so that on the day, you have the wedding you want.

he Legals – In Australia, Marriage is regulated by the Marriage Act 1961, which sets out the process for getting married and the legal requirements of a valid marriage. Here’s a basic guide to the 3 steps.

Step 1. The Notice of Intended Marriage

    – This form must be lodged with me at least one month before the wedding and is valid for up to18 months.

    – It asks you to show me evidence of your date and place of birth – if you were born in Australia, this is your birth certificate or an Australian passport. Certificates must be originals or a copy issued by the relevant registry – never a photocopy, whether certified or not.

    – You must both be over the age of 18.

    – If you were born overseas, then a birth certificate, your Australian passport or your overseas passport is acceptable (even if expired) – again, original documents not photocopies.

    – If you have been married before, you need to provide evidence of the end of that marriage, either a divorce certificate or a death certificate for former spouse.

    – All certificates need to be in English, otherwise you must arrange for them to be translated by a NAATI accredited translation service. I don’t keep your documents, I only need to sight them.

    – if you and your partner are related to each other you must disclose the relationship.

    – You each need to provide current photo ID

Step 2. In the Week Prior to the Wedding

    – we need to complete a Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage which asks you the question whether there is any reason that you can think of why you would be breaking the law to be married on your nominated date. Again, the onus is on you to tell the truth, with penalties if you don’t.

    Step 3. On the Day

    – The ceremony must include the Monitum – a paragraph set out in the Marriage Act; we’ll need to state your full names and you’ll need to exchange legal vows – also set out in the Marriage Act. There are three certificates to be signed by yourselves, a witness each and myself. One that I keep; a decorative official Marriage Certificate which you keep and one which I forward to the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages, to have your marriage officially registered. This process can take up to 10 weeks.

Once I notify you that registration is complete, I always suggest that you apply for a copy of your certificate of marriage registration, which you may well need, particularly if either of you will be changing your surname. However it is optional, so therefore not included in your fee.

Should your situation require either of you to apply for a Fiance / Spouse visa, I am experienced in providing the necessary documentation to support your application.

    Other Ceremonies

A Ceremony provides the opportunity to celebrate, welcome, acknowledge and pay tribute – it’s a way of marking Life’s Occasions in a most personal way.

    Commitment Ceremonies –

There are many reasons why couples ask me as a Melbourne Marriage Celebrant, to work with them on a commitment ceremony –

It may be that they’ve already been married in a small, private ceremony and now they’d like to spread the news and celebrate that occasion within their wider circle of family and friends.

It may be that they’ve been married for years, but never had the wedding they wanted or could afford; so now when they’re able to please themselves, want to renew their vows in their dream ceremony.

For many, the idea of being legally bound to one another seems superfluous. The legal certificate isn’t going to make any difference to how they feel about each other or the strength of their relationship. The ceremony is more about celebrating the depth of their emotional attachment.

So whatever your situation, my approach is always the same – telling your love story in a commitment ceremony that’s all about you.

    Funerals –

A Funeral Service that’s well written, well researched and delivered with genuine sensitivity can bring great comfort.

In times of sorrow, ceremony is the way to farewell, to mourn and remember. As a funeral celebrant, it’s always gratifying when couples I’ve been involved with in happier times, turn to me for help and guidance in preparing a Funeral or Memorial service for a loved one. Feeling comfortable with me and trusting that I’ll take my usual personal approach in creating a ceremony that truly reflects the character and individuality of tha

    Perpetual Expressions Wedding Celebrant Melbourne

    Marriage wedding specialist

Servicing Melbourne area, Warburton and the Yarra Valley

One of life’s most beautiful moments is the vision of a bride walking toward her husband to be.

A special moment in time which captivates the essence of love and happiness and will remain in your hearts forever, so it is only fitting that your wedding ceremony truly captures and portrays your love and lifetime commitment to each other.

My name is Elisabeth Pietsch and I love being a Celebrant.

I’m flexible, fun, friendly, energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about creating a wedding, elopement, renewal or commitment ceremony for you with warmth and understanding.

You are about to embark on a most exciting journey, and I would love to help you.

Your wedding in the presence of your family and friends, gives public recognition to the private experience of your love.

For anyone in love and who wants to become married, it is my absolute pleasure to help them ‘tie that knot’. My presentation style is down-to-earth and relaxed, non-complicated and not over-the-top, nothing cheesy, mushy or religious – just a gorgeous ceremony that starts the wedding day perfectly.

A ceremony that reflects you as a couple – as lovers, as partners in life, as best friends. A professionally presented, elegant, stylish and romantic ceremony that has everyone smiling, laughing (or crying!) Tears of joy are always allowed.

This is the day you have worked towards being the ultimate moment in life, so as your Celebrant, I ensure that ceremony is perfect from the very first minute.

From the Romantics and Dreamers to the Academics and Achievers, love is to be celebrated and your wedding ceremony will be as perfect as your love for each other.

The great thing about being married by a Civil Celebrant is that you get to choose where and when you get married.

You also have the opportunity to create a ceremony that is uniquely yours.

You can choose words, poems and readings that reflect your feelings for each other, and if you share a great sense of humour, this is the perfect occasion to showcase to your guests, your fun loving side.

This is your day, so enjoy yourselves, include happy memories, favourite readings and music, which tell the story of your romance. Be creative, make it your Wedding and you will have a day to cherish.

A Naming Ceremony is an important ritual in a child’s life and a wonderful way of introducing your child to your extended family and friends. It is also a means of celebrating your transition to parenthood.

Unlike a wedding, there are no legal requirements at a Naming Ceremony, which is probably just as well, because anything can happen where children are involved.

This makes the occasion wonderful and the unexpected often occurs. I will supply you with sample ceremonies and readings; however, if you wish to write your own ceremony, I can suggest wording and ideas to make it a memorable day.

It is a lovely idea to honour the grandparents by having a “Grandparents’ Dedication” where they choose a reading, or even write one to express the unconditional love they have for their grandchild. You may wish to appoint godparents or mentors for your child, or you can even appoint everyone at the ceremony to be your child’s “guardian family.”

Sometimes people are in love, but just don’t want to get married. There could be very personal reasons for this. Maybe an unpleasant first marriage and a bitter break up. It could be cultural or religious difference. It could be a couple who have previously been married, and have families.

Sometimes the legalities and Will complications can be overwhelming, so they make the decision not to marry. However, they want their family and friends to know that they are committed to each other. A Commitment Ceremony is also appropriate for a gay couple, who wish to make a public acknowledgment of their relationship.

The format of a Commitment Ceremony is similar to that of a Wedding, but it is not a legal ceremony and this must be stated by the Celebrant. If you both have children, a Commitment is a lovely way of uniting your two families by involving them in your ceremony.

Unlike a wedding, a commitment ceremony gives two people the freedom to choose to honour the traditional customs of a classic marriage without having to sign a marriage licence. Some couples choose to follow the wedding ceremony ritual, others prefer to invent their own rituals. There are no legal rules and limitations that apply to the commitment celebration and even the couple’s close friend can officiate the commitment ceremony.

Eloping is a wonderful way to avoid the stress and expense that usually accompanies a large wedding. Take a day or two off work and run away to the hills together or even with a few of your closest friends.

Is eloping for you? So many times in the wedding process, a frazzled bride will exclaim “We should just elope!” But few actually go through with it.

Given the high cost of a wedding, and the prominence of celebrities eloping, this might be an option worth considering.

There’s always a feeling of romantic rebellion when eloping is mentioned. It can be a good way to save money, but you should keep in mind the pros and cons of eloping. Although it might be a good idea at the time, will you regret not having a wedding in the years to come? You might want to keep in mind a few of these things:
