Home to the largest fleet of Couta Boats in Australia, we enjoy racing every weekend from November to June. SSCBC welcomes Members and their guests.
Welcome to Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club (SSCBC).
SSCBC's origins date back to 1948 and we feel so proud of our journey over the past 70 years or so. Each stage of SSCBC's growth and evolution has contributed to the Club we now love and enjoy.
One aspect of our Club incredibly important to me is our iconic Couta boats. Couta boats were traditionally used as fishing vessels to catch barracouta along the coast of Bass Strait. The Couta boats would then race back to shore with their catch. Many of our fleets are restored originals, some dating back to the early 1900s, racing regularly against the newer boats in the fleet. Our Club is fortunate to have the largest fleet of Couta boats in Australia, and they are raced most weekends competitively from November to June. I particularly enjoy watching the next generation take the helm, so to speak, so that they too can enjoy sailing these iconic boats into the future. SSCBC also owns a Couta boat, Ripple, giving members and visitors to the Club who are interested in learning how to sail a Couta boat the opportunity to have a go.
Another aspect of our Club particularly close to my heart is the warm, welcoming and inclusive nature of our Training Centre. Throughout summer, school holidays and weekends throughout most of the year, you will find our junior and youth sailors making the most of their time on the water, learning to sail or continuing to progress through the more competitive off the beach stages of racing. Our junior and youth sailors are nurtured by an incredible team of accredited instructors, many of whom have grown up themselves at the Club and are now part of our coaching team.
Our Cara na Mara program (meaning "friends of the sea" in Ireland) welcomes children aged from 5 years. It provides their first introduction to sailing and boating in general, in a controlled and safe environment. The Learn to Sail courses leads on from there, providing opportunities for children, teen and adults to begin the journey of sailing. This is where lifelong friendships are formed. Our Training Centre participants return each school holidays to meet up again with their friends, right where they left off, to enjoy their time at the beach.
We feel very fortunate to be situated in one of the most picturesque parts of the world, with the flat waters of Port Phillip Bay ideal for sailing. Our Clubhouse offers incredible views across the bay, and we invite Members and their guests to dine in the Clubhouse or enjoy a meal on the deck. The Clubhouse is also available for private functions for both Members and their guests. Planning is underway for a renovation of our Clubhouse, providing additional space for our Training Centre, boat storage, office administration and a new and improved kitchen and deck area. Stay tuned for this exciting new chapter of SSCBC!

Although the building boasts high-end credentials, there is nothing stuffy about the cafe, and it is all about friendly service and great quality food. We have worked tirelessly to create a cafe where everyone can feel welcome and at home while enjoying the best spot in Ocean Grove.

Over Newton Castle - Beach and Waterside Wedding Venue Victoria
A Brief History Lesson
William Taylor built Overnewton castle in 1849. The Scotsman bought 13,000 acres of rich grazing land just west of the Keilor township. Taylor built a simple single-storey bluestone colonial-style homestead. This consisted of 6 rooms with large shuttered windows and wide verandahs. The homestead was positioned on a gentle slope overlooking Keilor and afforded extensive views of the surrounding countryside.
During the 1850's Keilor became an important and busy stopover for travellers on their way to the Victorian Goldfields. This included the building of 2 schools, a new bridge and a new hotel.
It was not until William Taylor returned from a trip to Scotland in 1859 that the grandeur of his dreams became apparent. He set about turning the functional colonial homestead into a miniature Scottish Baronial Castle. The Stately two-storied wing was added, along with the bluestone Dairy & Butcher Shop and the Private Billiard room now used as a chapel for wedding ceremonies.
Overnewton is built in the Victorian Tudor style, inspired by 16th century English & Scottish architecture. The Scottish baronial style is characterised by its rough-textured masonry, steeped pitched roofs and overhanging battlement corner turrets. The candle snuffer roofs show the influence of French architecture. The bluestone walls were quarried on the estate and rendered with a yellow gravel and stucco finish. Above the large windows of the master bedroom is the Taylor family crest – a mailed arm and fist enclosing a dagger and the motto "Semper Fidelis" (always faithful) and above several other windows are the carved initials of HT, T 1859 and WT.
After the completion of this wing, the homestead consisted of over 35 rooms including 7 bedrooms (the master room included a small circular room and a dressing room) schoolroom, library, drawing room, 2 kitchens, 5 servants rooms and the Billiard room. There are still many original features such as tiles in the bathrooms, claw foot bath and the old IXL wood stove in the kitchen. Several out buildings on the estate include a bluestone butchery and dairy, lamp room, bootroom, coach house, stables, woolshed, shearing sheds and machine shed.
William Taylor passed away in 1903 aged 85 and six months latter is wife Helen aged 71 passed away. Their eldest son William Henry continued to manage the estate untill he passed away in 1939 aged 81 and his wife Beatrice in 1948. The estate remained in the Taylor family until 1959.
The Carr Family purchased Overnewton in 1959. They raised their three children on the property using part of it as a family home, and the downstairs rooms were used as a wedding reception centre.
In 1975 Dr. L. J. Norton purchased Overnewton Estate to raise his own family on the property. Since then there have been many upgrades and changes to the property including mains water in 1976, a fire in 1980 burnt the old timber stables. Dr Norton purchased back 6 acres of land which included a drystone wall and some of the original outbuildings.
The years have been kind to Overnewton, today it remains much the same as when it was originally built. Hidden away amongst the old trees, it has seen many changes throughout the years. Gone are the days of horse and carriages, gaslight and servants, but the old world grace and charm along with the elegance, grandeur and atmosphere of a bygone era still remain. Having been restored over the years and an elegant dining room added to the estate, this is definitely a hidden treasure.

Overnewton Castle has been host to thousands of weddings since 1961 and is one of the leading wedding venues in Melbourne. With open fireplaces for the cold winter months and over 4 acres of the pristine English garden, it's a picturesque backdrop for a castle wedding in Melbourne.

In that case, we also have a one-of-a-kind non-denominational chapel available, originally built by William Taylor as a Billiard Room and prefabricated in Scotland. We are a family run business, with myself, my husband and my daughter, who is involved. We originally got into the industry due to my daughter Simone finishing her Double Bachelor degree at Uni in Hospitality & Tourism, my husband Tony's extensive knowledge in the liquor industry with over 40 years experience & my natural flare for the love of food and design. The building was constructed in 1974 from Bluestone originally used in the streets of Port Melbourne. Roomba's renovated & refurbished the venue in February 2012, creating the perfect setting for a modern/country style function. At Roomba's, we pride ourselves in hosting a superior wedding reception. We are a small family run business, with a small team that specialises in the planning and organising of your event. Therefore you can feel comfortable knowing throughout your journey with us you are dealing with the same faces.
Our main function room is suited to a more elaborate reception for a larger group, with a beautiful outdoor sitting area overlooking part of the Macedon Ranges. Providing plenty of photo opportunities or a place for simply enjoying the views along with a drink and some canapés. This room hosts 60-130 sit down style or up to 230 cocktail style.
Upon arrival, once your Ceremony has ended or your Reception is about to start, you can have the choice of placing a tab on the bar or beginning your wedding package. In which guests are treated to pre-dinner drinks and canapés whilst you are off having photos around the property.
With each room specifically designed for photo opportunities, it is a photographers dream should the weather be unsuitable outside as we have spent the time and effort ensuring that each room has a different look to create the perfect photos for your special day.

Big Ben Mountain in the Kiewa Valley hosts numerous eagles who soar above the farm, giving the location its name. The venue is approximately 35km from Wodonga.
There are many options available in the region for the hire of tables, crockery, marquees and special effects.
Beautiful Beneagle Farm can arrange these services, or you can manage them yourself.
We do specialise in hire of rustic and period furniture and fittings to help your Marquee be as unique as you are.
External catering is needed for our venue.
The marquee site configuration is flexible 15x25meters, and on-site power is available to allow for the management and cooking of tapas or sit-down meals.
Beautiful Beneagle Farm has private accommodation on site that you can hire for your wedding.
This is perfect for the bridal party and their preparations!
We offer a fully self-contained 2 room apartment and B&B accommodation in the main house.
There is plenty of parking space at our venue, but we do recommend hiring a bus to allow your guests to enjoy your wedding responsibly.

Located near the Yarra Valley, Flowerdale Estate is your beautiful garden wedding venue. Your guests will get lost in the magic of this stunning pocket of country Victoria.
Choose from at least two locations on our idyllic property for your Ceremony. We have garden beds of stunning white roses which are boarded by immaculate hedges. Our venue offers its North Lawn as the classic outdoor garden wedding setting. The picturesque Lakeside provides a contrast to the North Lawn. Fronting Lakeside, the water glistens whilst the rolling hills reflect the seasons. Here, the native plants and gum trees mirror these surroundings.
For small weddings, we can also offer the lawn under the gorgeous old oak tree on our property. We have a range of different ceremony options for you to choose from, dependent on your personal choice.
