Wedding Reception Venue Yarra Valley Boutique

50+ Best Wedding Reception Venues in Yarra Valley (2022)

The number 1 thing that makes The Yarra Valley such a desirable destination for weddings is all of the fantastic Yarra Valley venues located here. The Yarra Valley is made up of 3 ‘main’ highways. Maroondah, Melba & Warburton. Maroondah Highway is the main one that everyone knows, which runs between Lilydale and Healesville. This highway boasts many of your big name, well known commercial wineries, and stunning venues like The Riverstone Estate, Coombe & Stones of The Yarra Valley. The Melba Highway connects Yarra Glen to Yea, and here you have beautiful rolling hills, valleys and unique venues like Zonzo, Yering Station & Immerse.

Perhaps the ‘lesser-known’ highway of the 3, and often overlooked as far as Yarra Valley wedding destinations go, is The Warburton Highway. You’ll find many of your smaller, family-owned wineries on The Warburton Highway; where you’re more like one of their family members, not just another customer. My favourite wedding venues on The Warburton Highway include Killara Estate & Paynes Rise.

Are you located in Yarra Valley, planning a wedding and looking for a wedding Reception Venue? When you are planning your big day, you probably want everything just perfect. One of the best ways to make sure that it all turns out the way you dreamed it to select every vendor yourself personally. This way, you can choose the ultimate location, the best entertainment and the most delicious food, and craft your perfect wedding day.

    The Story

Where character runs deep within our vines.

In a valley home to 50 wineries and 110 vineyards, rows of trees protect 20 acres of harvesting land. The first planting took place in 1968 by two brothers. They made home. They hung their family crest on a farmhouse wall, and they gave the land their namesake, Fergusson.

In the following years, the vineyard saw its first commercial vintage, a communal restaurant, the birth of their children, who along with their mother, would later become the keepers of the land. And then, the end of an era – the entire estate burned in the fire of 1989.

Not a single vine was harmed.

With every end comes the dawn of a new day. The following year saw the bearing of a record vintage. The next decades saw the ebbs and flows of winemaking, farming, cooking, community, and family life. It’s a rich history that continues to grow by preserving and transforming the land and the people who occupy it.

Today, half a century later, the family continue to share their passion for the drop through a vineyard experience that sees you eating, drinking and escaping into a natural and relaxed setting.

    The Big Day

Our farmland is marked by the countryside, a backdrop for a chapel’s classic timber façade steeped in history and ceremonial wisdom. A few steps away, our Secret Garden waits for saps to rise, buds to swell and burst, and the smell of a new season to settle in.

Ours is a space for all kinds of weddings, from the classically beautiful, to the whimsical and creative, the rustic, vintage or farm style bash. The setting is lyrical, the food is sophisticated yet wholesome, and always made with love … specially created to match a stunning wine list and the sound of a hundred clinking glasses.

Choose one of our magical settings for your reception…

Our Barrel Room is pared back to cater to your day. However, you choose it. We’ll seat up to 80 guests and create a space for you to dance among walls lined with French Oak Barrels that doubly create a wonderful smell and backdrop for your choice of acoustics.

For larger receptions, our Rustic Restaurant with cathedral ceilings, solid native timbers, hand-sawn refectory furniture and the radiant warmth of our large open fire, overlooks the picturesque vineyard from every window.

Smaller, more intimate weddings will perfectly suit Lou Lou’s quaint dining room.

Paynes Rise Wedding Reception Venue Yarra Valley

Paynes Rise Wedding Reception Venue Yarra Valley Winery

    (03) 5964 2504

Paynes Rise Wines in the Upper Yarra Valley is a boutique winery specialising in small-batch wines produced from carefully selected fruit from their vineyard in Seville, Victoria. It is the realisation of many years of hard work, dedication and passion of Tim and Narelle Cullen. Paynes Rise endeavour to produce varietal fruit-driven wines with complexity, that are expressive of the vineyards unique qualities and upper Yarra cool climate.

The year 1838 saw the first vines planted in the Yarra Valley. The Ryrie Brothers produced these at the now site of Yering Station.

In the mid-1860s at the same time, our Thomas Payne was settling in Seville Hubert de Castella, and Guillaume de Pury established St Huberts and Yeringberg vineyards. The area covered by these vineyards was 430 acres, thus providing a flourishing wine industry for the region.

The Yarra Valley can grow both the early-ripening varieties such as Pinot Noir and the later ripening varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon in many varying styles.

Other varieties grown in the Yarra Valley are white varieties of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Pinot Gris, and Riesling, Viognier, Marsanne, Rousanne and Verduzzo. Red varieties grown are Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and in lesser quantities Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese and Nebbiolo.

In 1892 the Deschamps Brothers and David Mitchell (Dame Nellie Melba’s father)planted vineyards in Yering, taking the total cultivated area to 1000 acres by the century’s turn.

1937 saw the end of an era in the Yarra Valley. Economic depression and adverse natural conditions resulted in all vines being pulled out in favour of pasture and cattle. New plantings began in 1963 with Wantirna Estate at the forefront. Many more followed in the preceding years and have led to the successful, vibrant industry that it is today.

    The region and its varieties

The Yarra Valley essentially occupies the area that used to be known as the county of Evelyn; up to Whittlesea and Kinglake in the north, down to Gembrook in the South, out to Mt Gregory in the east and to Wantirna and Templestowe in the west.

The major towns within that boundary are St Andrew in the North East, Dixon’s Creek and Yarra Glen in the north, Lilydale and Coldstream in the middle, Healesville in the east and Seville, Monbulk and Warburton in the South.

The Yarra Valley climate has been described as being warmer than Burgundy and cooler than Bordeaux. There are, however, significant differences in the environment across the Valley.

Average annual rainfall can vary from 700mm in the north to 1500mm in the very Upper Yarra Valley (southern region). A summation of heat used in viticulture is heat degrees days (HDD). This figure can vary from 1500 in the north of the valley to 1000 in the Upper Yarra region.

This growing parameter in correlation with aspect and exposure to the sun can determine what grape variety can be grown and what style in a particular site.

The Yarra Valley houses approximately 85 wineries producing wine from 3800 hectares of grapes. The diversity of wine style is very broad, with wines to suit every individual.

Tips For Choosing Your Wedding Venue

Estimate how many people you'd like to invite to your big day

Since not all places can accommodate a wide variety of wedding sizes. Nearly every venue will have a guest count minimum: "Be sure to aim low in your numbers — it's easier to add guests than to deduct," says Diane Kolanović-Šolaja from Dee Kay Events. If your final attendance number winds up being smaller than you had anticipated and you have to pay for extra plates, she recommends asking the venue if they can throw in a couple more appetizers during cocktail hour or add extra time to the reception festivities.

Sit down with your fiancé and figure out how much you are willing to spend.

Do your homework and find out what the going rates are in your desired wedding location. Online venue directories, such as The Venue Report, allow you to search by location, price, and venue type, among other criteria. Determining how much you can afford will help you avoid the heartache of falling in love with a place that's well out of your price range — you don't want to spend more than 50% of your total wedding budget on your venue. "Frequently, couples hire us after they find the venue, and we wish they would book us first before doing anything. Couples get so excited and want to lock in the date and place that they don't think about all of the other expenses that they have to cover," says Danielle Rothweiler from Rothweiler Event Design. Rushing into contracts before you have all of the figures in front of you may leave you "house poor," and you'll have to figure out what to cut out to compensate for overspending.

"Check out wedding planners' and photographers' blogs to see real wedding photos of venues you're interested in visiting.

Since they aren't staged, you'll get a much better idea of what things can (and really do) look like," says Kristin Crawford, W Austin’s Director of Catering and Events. It can be especially helpful if you are unable to visit the venue during the season you'll be getting married.

    Choose your wedding date.

"Wedding dates can be significant for a variety of reasons; some couples choose to wed on the day they met, their parents' or grandparents' anniversary date, or for auspicious reasons that numbers have in their culture or religion. Others may pick a specific time of year and season but not a specific day," says Margo Fischer from Bright Occasions. If you can be flexible with your date and choose an off-season month, you’ll often be able to secure the venue of your dreams at a lower rate. For example, you'd likely pay less for a Friday wedding in February than you would for a Saturday in June. Time of year, day of the week, and your engagement length will all impact your negotiating leverage with vendors.

Choose a venue to suit your personalities

Every couple is unique, so work as a team to find a venue that includes both of your tastes. Whether you go for a modern loft, a simple beach wedding, or a grand manor house like Elmore Court, choose a venue to suit your personalities combined into one!
