WHAT IS LASER REMOVAL OF PIGMENTED LESIONS?
Lasers are a simple, fast, effective and safe tool for removing a wide variety of benign pigmented lesions, such as freckles, age spots, birthmarks, moles, specific vascular lesions, ephelides, melasma, seborrheic and actinic keratoses.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Laser removal of pigmented lesions works by destroying the pigment in the skin without the need for excision. This process is completed in 3 simple steps:
Step 1 - LIGHT ABSORPTION: The laser produces short nanosecond pulses of intense light that pass harmlessly through the top layers of the skin to be selectively absorbed by the melanin pigment in the lesion.
Step 2 – PIGMENT BREAK-UP: The laser light is transformed into photoacoustic waves which mechanically break up the melanin pigment into smaller particles.
Step 3 – PIGMENT REMOVAL: These particles are then removed by the body's own immune system, as the skin's macrophages clear the excess pigment from the area.
WHY IS WAVELENGTH IMPORTANT?
The laser wavelength is what determines which chromophore will be predominantly targeted by the laser to be selectively removed. Clinical studies show that superficial lesions can be treated most effectively with the KTP 532 nm wavelength, while the Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength can be used to target deeper-lying chromophores. Additionally, Q-switched light, available with Fotona's QX MAX laser system, is especially effective due to its high peak powers and selective nature, enabling it to break apart pigments only and not cells. This means that pigment destruction can take place without ablating the skin.
WHY IS THE QX MAX PERFECT FOR LASER REMOVAL OF PIGMENTED LESIONS?
It is widely recognised in the medical community that Q-Switched lasers are the ideal tool for effectively removing benign pigmented lesions. Combining 4 laser modalities in an advanced, high-powered solution, Fotona's QX MAX laser system effectively removes all common pigmented lesions. Fotona's innovative R-HX handpiece produces a completely flat laser beam profile that is hexagonal in shape to allow for more precise and uniform coverage. Homogeneity of the laser beam profile is important in pigment removal treatments and skin whitening. It ensures safety during treatment since laser energy is evenly distributed across the treated area. The system's OPTOflex articulated arm increases precision and safety. OPTOflex generates absolute uniform beam profiles. Its ergonomic design allows easy and natural hand movement during procedures.
Laser treatment of pigmented lesions is quick, sutureless, has a rapid healing time and produces excellent results. It is suitable for all ethnic skin types. For example, Asian skin is highly sensitive to heat, and often hyper-pigmentation can result from using the wrong laser sources or as a result of poor administration of the laser treatment. The Nd:YAG or KTP Nd:YAG laser sources, on the other hand, have been generating desirable treatment results to all ethnic skin types.
FOTONA STARWALKER: A GLOBALLY RECOGNISED ULTRAPERFORMANCE Q-SWITCHED LASER SYSTEM.
Since its introduction, Fotona's QX MAX has been globally recognised as an ultra-performance Q-Switched laser system. The StarWalker represents the next important evolutionary step forward and takes the system to an even higher level.
ASP: Third Generation Technology
StarWalker® and its groundbreaking ASP (Adaptive Structured Pulse) technology represent a cosmic shift forward for the medical and aesthetic laser industry.
This third-generation technology combines the unsurpassed range of pulse duration modes of Fotona's VSP (Variable Square Pulse) technology with the revolutionary capability of ASP technology to adapt the temporal structure of laser pulses to the bio-photonic dynamics of laser-tissue interaction.
Power of a Pico Laser with the Energy of a Q-Switched Laser
StarWalker's unique TMD (Transverse Mode Discrimination) laser oscillator technology combined with the ASP pulse control delivers very short (5 nsec) Q-switched pulses consisting of a high energy train of ultra-short bursts of energy in trillionths of a second, enabling photomechanical impact to shatter tiny skin targets without injury to the surrounding skin. StarWalker's technology thus combines the high energy capabilities of nanosecond lasers with the ultrashort pulse peak powers of traditional picosecond lasers.
Modulated Acoustics Q-Switched (MaQX) Laser System - Unmatched Q-Switched Pulse Energy
Fotona's StarWalker laser system features the entire range of super-short pulse technologies in a single, high-performance solution. StarWalker's patented MaQX pulse modalities produce powerful bursts of laser energy that photoically break apart skin pigmentations into smaller, more easily eliminated particles.
Based on revolutionary ASP technology, the StarWalker is capable of delivering up to an unprecedented 10 J of Q-switched energy in one giant structured MaQX pulse. The unique MaQX high energy capability of StarWalker enables the generation of a higher energy photoacoustic effect at the treatment site, leading to more effective and faster treatments. Additionally, with high MaQX energies, larger spot sizes can be used, resulting in more homogeneous treatments of even deeper lying skin pigments, and therefore with reduced risk of unwanted side effects.
- Third-generation ASP technology for ultimate precision, efficacy and safety of treatments
- Widest range of procedure modes, including unique MaQX, VERDE, FRAC3 and VERSA3 modes for pigment, vascular and collagen treatments
- An impressive line of advanced smart control handpieces
- Intuitive, easy-to-use parameter selection
- Minimally invasive, safe treatments with little downtime
- Excellent patient comfort and satisfaction

LASER PIGMENTATION TREATMENT
The stimulation of melanocytes in the skin leads to the development of pigmentation. Melanocytes are the cells that release melanin, which is the pigment you can see in your skin after being in the sun and a tan is developing. Different skin types are more prone to producing patches of pigmentation, and these can be stimulated by changes in hormones, trauma, and chemical alterations to the skin.
Treatment methods for pigmentation patches will vary depending on the individual involved, but they can include topical creams and IPL treatments. Often referred to as sun spots, age spots and liver spots, pigmented lesions are often a concern for people who are looking at clearing their complexion. These can be easily treated for those people who are committed to staying out of the sun and wearing sunblock. After a professional diagnosis, pigmented lesions can be treated and maintained long term.
Fair to olive skin types is best suited to this treatment. Patients should not be treated if they have had significant sun exposure (sun, solarium) or fake tan in the 4 weeks immediately prior to treatment.
YOUR TREATMENT WITH US
Our Liberty Belle Skin Centre clinicians will customise a plan to suit your individual skin's needs.
You will be asked to remove your makeup or moisturisers, lie down on a couch, and to put special goggles on to protect your eyes. The areas to be treated can be numbed with a topical anaesthetic cream. The therapist will pass a laser beam over the treatment area.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Laser rejuvenation utilises an intense beam of light to deliver energy to your skin. The laser focuses on problem areas such as redness, mottled complexion, sun damage, brown spots and freckles or can be used to treat a whole area.
It heats up the area to encourage new skin to grow. It works beneath your epidermis to stimulate collagen growth.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING FACIAL LASER SKIN REJUVENATION?
Our Liberty Belle Skin Centre clinicians will customise a plan to suit your individual skin's needs.
You will be asked to remove your makeup or moisturisers, lie down on a couch, and to put special goggles on to protect your eyes. The areas to be treated can be numbed with a topical anaesthetic cream. The therapist will pass a laser beam over the treatment area.
WHAT IS THE DURATION TIME OF THE TREATMENT?
The procedure can last from a few minutes to an hour and a half, depending on the size of the area being treated.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM THIS TREATMENT?
Immediately following treatment, brown spots will start to darken, and skin may appear slightly red and mildly swollen. This resolves over the next few hours and makeup can be applied to cover the redness. Within 1 — 3 weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade, leaving a rejuvenated skin appearance. Any diffuse redness will decrease, and your complexion will improve. New spots and redness may appear with ongoing sun damage, but these too can be prevented or treated. One to three IPL laser skin (resurfacing) treatments at our Melbourne skin centre are usually sufficient to see results. Additional treatments may be necessary for very large or dark spots, densely freckled areas or excessively sun-damaged skin.

Located in Melbourne CBD, we provide laser pigmentation removal Melbourne in the nearby suburbs of Emporium, QV, Highpoint, Abbotsford, Carlton, Richmond, St Kilda, Glen Iris, Hawthorn, Brunswick, Toorak and surrounding areas.
PIGMENTATION/FRECKLE REDUCTION AND REMOVAL
The term laser for pigmentation refers to the use of lasers to lighten the appearance of pigmentation in various areas of the body. This treatment is referred to as a therapeutic laser resurfacing or TRS.
Dermatologists and plastic surgeons often use this procedure because it allows them to treat patients with any type of skin disease, infection, or birthmark. This is done to treat small bumps or other places that the skin's collagen fibres may have broken or weakened.
Laser for pigmentation focuses on melasma, freckles, age spots, acne scars, and sun damage with effective and safe laser or IPL pigmentation treatments.
Pigmentation enhances how old we look much more than wrinkles.
It can effectively and safely minimise the appearance of pigmentation, freckles, and after-trauma pigmentation like age spots and acne scars. Laser pigmentation removal helps in treating these conditions by fragmenting and targeting the chosen imperfection without creating any damage to the tissue surrounding the skin.
WHAT IS PIGMENTATION?
Pigmentation signifies colouring. Skin pigmentation disorders influence the colour of the skin. Your skin gets its colour from a pigment known as melanin. When these cells become damaged or damaged, it impacts melanin production. Some pigmentation disorders affect only spots of skin.
Types of pigmentation
While increased pigmentation isn't harmful, it may be a sign of another health condition. One of the types of pigmentation is melasma, which is thought to result from hormonal changes and might grow during pregnancy.
Regions of pigmentation can occur in almost any region of the human body, but they seem most commonly on the gut and face. Also referred to as liver stains or solar lentigines, sunspots are typical.
They are associated with excessive sun exposure with time. Normally, they look like spots on areas exposed to sunlight, such as the face and hands. This is a consequence of inflammation or injury to the skin. A frequent cause of the sort is acne.
What causes pigmentation?
- Sun harm
- Skin Care trauma/Injury
- Environmental vulnerability
- Environmental changes
- Trauma, medicines and medical conditions
Sun exposure is the leading cause of hyperpigmentation because it is sunlight that activates the creation of melanin in the first place. Melanin acts as the own skin's natural sunscreen by shielding you from harmful rays, and that's the reason why folks tan in sunlight. But excessive sunlight exposure can interrupt this process, resulting in hyperpigmentation.
How does laser pigmentation removal work?
Laser Pigmentation Removal functions to safely and effectively reduce the appearance of freckles, pigmentation, and post-trauma pigmentation such as acne scars and age spots. The laser targets only the pigmented lesion in the skin that absorbs the light, without damaging the surrounding skin.
The laser heats up and shatters the pigment. The pigment is then attracted to the surface without damaging the surrounding tissues. Once attracted to the surface, the pigmented lesions will dry or fade and flake off the treated region, leaving skin with an even complexion and tone.
Collins Laser Clinic Melbourne CBD uses Fotona technology which unites multiple wavelengths in 1 treatment, allowing us to target and treat a wider variety of pigments. The laser has the highest-energy, single-pulse engineering, powered to eliminate surface pigmentation and profound vascular damage. This means better outcomes for your pigmentation removal. It's by far the most innovative Q-Switched laser readily available to take care of psoriasis, melasma, vascular damage, and uneven skin tone.

How can I remove pigmentation permanently?
In order to remove pigmentation, you require specific laser treatments. Get a free consultation, and we shall let you know what the best treatment for you is.
Why does pigmentation happen on the face?
This occurs due to the increase in melanin. This may occur due to sun damage or other factors such as an increase in the level of hormones in your body.
What Should I Expect After My Treatment?
Instantly post-treatment you can expect to see some moderate redness. You may also find a few of the pigmentation spots (freckles) turn darker. This is normal, and the pigment naturally drops off the surface of the skin over seven to 14 days depending upon your skin cell turnover.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments you require may vary, depending on the number of freckles and discolouration spots. It is common to require 2-3 treatments.

What does skin pigmentation mean?
Pigmentation is the generalised term to changes in skin tone from a range of causes. Skin pigmentation can be found all over the body, but generally, appear on the face.
Our skin gets its colour from a pigment called melanin. If your body produces too much melanin, your skin will get darker. And if your body doesn't create enough melanin, your skin gets lighter.
What causes skin pigmentation?
Sun exposure and UV damage are two of the largest causes of pigmentation. It's often the main cause of wrinkles, spots, and sags we consider a natural part of ageing. Over time, the sun's UV rays damage skin fibres called elastin.
Other causes of skin pigmentation include thermal injuries, inflammation — even hormonal imbalances. Environmental factors such as cigarette smoke, air pollution, and chemicals can also damage the surface of your skin.
What treatments are available?
The Mesoestetic Cosmelan and Dermamelan treatments brighten brown patches and skin discolourations by pausing the amount of melanin your skin produces for the duration of the application. Afterwards, melanin production begins once more. Clients will need to be vigilant about applying SPF 50 (or higher) sunscreen for 3-6 months after. We do recommend continuing sunscreen application daily, if you're worried about skin pigmentation, as UV damage is a major exacerbating factor.
Our industry-leading laser technologies range from 755 nanometres (nm) single wavelengths to Fraxel dual laser, and the RevLite laser (which uses four wavelengths). Book a consultation today to find out more.

This promotes the production of new skin cells to replace the old, damaged, discoloured or disfigured ones making this technology extremely effective in treating conditions such as:
- sun damage,
- broken capillaries,
- acne and more.

We do what we do best. Skin is what we know.
Pigmentation comes in many forms. Ageing, sun damage and genetics can leave behind patches of irregularly-coloured skin that, although harmless, are a cosmetic concern for patients who feel they are unsightly. Effective treatment for these issues begins with a visit to a dermatologist who can identify the type of pigmentation you have and evaluate your skin, then recommend an appropriate treatment option based on these factors. At Northside Dermatology, we have seen excellent results using Cutera's Excel V system to treat benign pigmented lesions.
What Is a Laser for Pigment?
The award-winning Excel V laser incorporates two proven wavelengths, 532 nm and 1064 nm, that allow the system to be calibrated to improve a broad range of vascular conditions, pigmentation issues and general skin rejuvenation concerns. The 532 nm wavelength's high absorption by melanin makes it an ideal choice for the treatment of benign pigmented lesions. This is the same laser system that we use to treat redness and vascular lesions using different settings.
How Does the Laser for Pigment Work?
The laser works by target melanin, the naturally-occurring pigment that gives the skin and hair their colour. Melanin is produced by cells called melanocytes. Skin pigmentation conditions occur when melanin is under-produced or over-produced, causing areas of the skin to appear lighter or darker than the surrounding areas. Melanin readily absorbs specific energy wavelengths. By setting the Excel V laser to the correct wavelength, our dermatologists can selectively target and destroy lesions that result from increased melanin production.
What Does the Laser for Pigment Treat?
The Excel V laser can improve several types of benign pigmented lesions, including:
- Solar lentigines
- Flat seborrheic keratosis
- Dermatosis papulosa nigra
What Is Involved Before I Am Treated With the Laser for Pigment?
Safety is a priority at Northside Dermatology. You must undergo a comprehensive skin examination before commencing laser treatment for sun freckles to ensure that the patch of pigmentation you are concerned about is not a melanoma or a nonmelanoma skin cancer. If a treated lesion reoccurs, you will need to be assessed by our dermatologist to ensure it is still benign. A skin biopsy may be required to establish a histological diagnosis and exclude more dangerous changes.
How Should I Prepare My Skin Before Treatment?
Before a laser for pigment treatment, please:
- Avoid sun tanning and self-tanning products for four weeks
- Do not have any treatments, such as waxing, that could irritate your skin for one to two weeks
- Cease use of skincare products with active ingredients such as vitamin A and AHA for two days
- Notify your treating clinician if you have a history of cold sores, as you may require an anti-viral prescription before treatment
- For patients with darker skin, a pigment-lightening cream may be used before and after laser treatment to minimise the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
We recommend seeing our dermal clinicians learn how you can optimise your skincare prior to having laser treatment to ensure optimal, longer-lasting results.
What Can I Expect During Treatment With the Laser for Pigment?
You will put on protective eyewear, and your clinician will apply a gliding gel to the treatment area to maximise the contact between the laser plate and your skin. No topical or local anaesthesia is required during the procedure. Your clinician will pass the handpiece over the affected areas in sections until the treatment is complete.
Is the Treatment Painful?
Treatment with Excel V involves minimal discomfort. The system features a cooling mechanism that is used to soothe and protect your skin during treatment.
Is There Any Downtime?
There will be an initial period of redness, swelling and darkening of the pigmented lesion. Still, for a majority of patients, it does not interfere with their comfort resuming daily activities. Post-treatment changes can be camouflaged with makeup if desired.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Your clinician will explain the side effects and potential complications associated with the laser for pigment, as well as ways to minimise them before your treatment begins. These include:
- Redness, swelling and transient darkening of the treated area: these are the most common side effects and generally resolve within three to seven days
- Pigmentary changes: the risk of pigmentary complications is minimised with the use of pigment-inhibiting cream before and after laser treatment
How Should I Care for My Skin After Treatment?
After treatment with the laser for pigment, we advise you to:
- Avoid sun exposure and apply a broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB) sunscreen to prevent further sun damage.
- Avoid products containing irritants (e.g. vitamin A, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, salicylic acid) for one week after treatment.
How Much Does Treatment With the Laser for Pigment Cost?
The cost depends on the size of the area being treated. Please see our price guide for more information and contact our office on 03 8582 8688 to schedule a consultation.

Melbourne Facial Beauty
IPL Facial Rejuvenation
Intense Pulsed Light IPL Facial Rejuvenation was designed to combat the effects of aging and damaged skin in a gentle, non-invasive yet effective way. The redness and flushing of rosacea can be reduced by 80 to 90 percent. Fine lines and wrinkles are decreased significantly. Acne and acne scarring lighten up.
IPL treatments energy is delivered at specific settings for each treatment to maximise results. The heat from the light energy stimulates the production of collagen and elastic, and this, in turn, softens the appearance of lines and improves the texture and colour of aging skin.
IPL devices use a number of wavelengths including yellow, green and red light that is emitted in a series of short pulses. The yellow/green light destroys the bacteria that live in the skin and cause acne. Red light directly targets the overactive sebaceous glands that cause outbreaks of pustules. This heats the deeper layer of the skin and causes shrinkage of the inflamed sebaceous glands and helps to prevent over-production of excess sebum.
During the treatment, a thin layer of cooling gel applied to the treated area. Pulses of light energy of specific treatment parameters are delivered to skin based on skin type and condition treated. The process usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area that needs to be treated.

The SaltFacial™️ is a medical-grade treatment that exfoliates the skin with all-natural sea salt—essentially, it's the ultimate answer to picture-perfect skin. The three-in-one skin renewal restores, replenishes, and rejuvenates the skin through a three-step process. Dr. Diamond explained that since the machine is newer to the market, his office is one of the few places to receive the treatment in Melbourne.
Step One: Restore (Exfoliation)
Using pure microfine sea salt, the next-generation exfoliating machine gently but effectively removes the top layer of the skin (stratum corneum). Different from other microdermabrasion machines, the SaltFacial L'avantage™️ uses a closed loop of pressure, so there's no suction, which makes it safer than other technology. As you can see in the photo, Candace traced my face in a grid-like pattern with the machine, leaving the residue of the salt on my face.
Benefits of using salt include antibacterial, antimicrobial, calming, and balancing effects, which make it great for acne as well as dullness. Since salt retains water, it bloats skin cells, leaving skin deeply hydrated and plump, which also helps lessen fine lines.
Step Two: Replenish (Ultrasound)
After exfoliating my face, Dr. Diamond's aesthetician used the exclusive L'avantage 3 MHz ultrasound module to stimulate vital nutrients back into my skin. The ultrasound opens up cells to accept hydration and push products up to two times deeper into the skin tissue. This step also promotes healthier skin texture and helps to encourage collagen reformation (read: firmer, tighter skin).
Step Three: Rejuvenate (LED Light)
The last step in the SaltFacial™️ is LED light therapy, which is great because it can be tailored to your skin type. Blue light helps with inflammation and kills bacteria, and red light promotes collagen production and aids in healing (such as bruises and pain). While under the light, you can take a mini snooze, relax, and enjoy the warmth of the phototherapy
You can feel the benefits immediately after my treatment, but it wasn't until the next day when I could truly see a difference in my skin. Not only was my complexion incredibly glowy, but my skin felt softer than it ever has before—proving the SaltFacial™️ is the ultimate answer to keeping your skin hydrated and plump. To keep skin in an optimal state, we recommend SaltFacial™️ once a month. My skin has definitely been spoiled by introducing this treatment to my regimen.

Cosmetic Tattoo and Beauty
Cosmetic Tattoo and training are at the heart of what we do.
Our experienced team also provide tattoo removal and various skin treatments.
Laser Pigmentation Removal
Our laser pigmentation removal can help remove a variety of epidermal and dermal pigmentation types, including:
- epidermal melanosis
- nevus of Ota
- Mongolian spot
- melasma and deeper pigment
The treatment works by applying an intense burst of light at the pigmented lesions, which then triggers healing of the upper dermis. Following treatment, new collagen formation occurs, and over time the pigmentation will lighten and fade.
The technology allows us to target specific pigment without damaging any surrounding tissue.
Cosmetic Tattoo is at the Heart of Our Business
We have built our business and our reputation around cosmetic Tattoo.
We use two different methods of cosmetic tattooing. The first is known as Microblading and is used for 'Hair Stroke Brows'. This technique is done by hand with a small disposable tool which has tiny needles in a row, and the skin is lightly scratched into hair strokes. The pigment is pushed into the strokes to make them darker, and this is the most natural technique to get the best natural-looking brows.
The second method involves a Digital Tattoo Machine. This method is used for 'Powder/Ombré brows, 'Eyeliner', 'Lip' and 'Areola' tattoos.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) causes skin darkening and discolouration that show up as spots, or as large patches on a person's body. This is because cells that normally produce brown pigment evenly across your skin go into overproduction and produce too much melanin.
This is due to an inflammatory reaction in, or to an injury to, the skin. If the excess melanin is produced in the upper layer of skin (epidermis), the pigmentation colour is a darker shade of brown. If the excess melanin is produced in the lower layer of skin (the dermis), a grey or blue discolouration becomes visible.
Although PIH can occur in all skin types, it is more common in people of Africa, Asia, Latin, and indigenous Indian background, and can affect men and women. Areas of the skin affected by PIH correspond with areas of previous inflammation or injury. When dark changes in your skin's colour remain after the underlying problem has gone away, you have PIH. The most common causes are injuries such as scratches, burns, cuts, or bruises. Cause of PIH examples of which include:
- skin infections
- laser treatments
- allergic reactions
- mechanical injuries
- reactions to medications
- phototoxic eruptions
- trauma (e.g. burns)
- inflammatory reactions
Ordinary conditions such as acne or pimples are a very common cause of PIH in individuals with brown skin. PIH can also be caused by injury to the skin resulting from sunburns, surgery or cosmetic procedures such as chemical peels, dermabrasion, lasers and cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen treatments).
Usually, hyperpigmentation will gradually lessen over time, and normal skin colour will return. However, this is a long process that may take up to 12 -24 months or longer. But for those clients who wish to remove PIH faster, the Medlite Q-switch laser method has proven to be one of the best treatments for such condition.
Clients should be advised to use a good broad-spectrum sunscreen daily to reduce further darkening.
Whatever treatment option you choose, understand that improvement will take time. In our experience, great results could be archived within 8 – 10 weekly treatments.
If you suspect that you may have PIH, it is important to search for the underlying cause and treat that cause. For example, when the discolouration is caused by a problem such as an acne, the acne must first be eliminated or treated before PIH can effectively be treated. Every time a new blemish develops and then resolves, a new area of PIH will develop. Therefore, it is crucial to minimise all new outbreaks with appropriate medications. Only then can the treatment for the PIH be effective.
At City laser Clinic, we understand the distress and embarrassment that skin lesions can cause, particularly the darker blemishes and especially when covering larger parts of the visible skin. City laser Clinic laser therapists have found that the MedLite Q-Switch laser operating in the 1064nm wavelength laser mode is the most effective resource for treatment of PIH.
As with all Laser therapy treatments, the frequency and number of treatments will depend on your skin type, and the area affected and the size of that area. Contact us to arrange a FREE laser consultation to discuss a laser treatment plan that suits your needs.

Pigmented lesions – unsightly dark patches on the skin – are typically caused by repeated sun exposure or aging. Regardless of the cause, pigmented lesions arise where there is a high concentration of melanin under the skin. Skin pigmentation can present itself in a number of ways; from hyperpigmentation (darkened patches of skin caused by hormonal changes) through to excessive exposure to the sun (sunspots) and hypopigmentation (patches of skin that are lighter in colour to your normal skin tone). With the help of skin pigmentation treatment at O'Laze, you can even out your skin tone for a smoother, more balanced appearance. Book an appointment at our pigmentation treatment clinic today to discuss your needs with our friendly staff.
Laser Treatment for Pigmentation that Gets Results
You might have heard of laser treatment for hair removal before, but you might not have heard of laser pigmentation treatment. Cynosure's advanced ICON™ laser treatment for pigmentation treats sun-damaged and aging skin quickly and effectively. Using a precision hand-held device, the experienced technicians at O'Laze can deliver short, painless pulses of light to the afflicted area without the need for topical or numbing agents. Procedures can range from laser freckle removal to open pores treatment. The precision wavelength and pulse-width setting in O'Laze's state-of-the-art laser technology sharply raises the temperature in the highly-concentrated melanin; enough to splinter the abnormal cells. The cells surrounding the target area remain unharmed. The body then replaces the coagulated cells with new, healthy cells propagated by the surrounding untreated area.
The result? Smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin and an immediate change in skin discolouration in just one to five treatments.
- Age Spots
- Sun Spots
- Uneven skin tone
- Open Pores
If you're looking for the best treatment for pigmentation on the face, arms, back or anywhere else on the body, make an appointment with O'Laze today. Our clinic can also help you with a range of other cosmetic services, including full body laser hair removal, non-invasive varicose vein treatment and laser spider vein removal.

Skin can develop freckles and age spots which become more apparent with ageing and exposure to the sun. A variety can easily treat these age spots of treatments available at Eden Laser Clinics in Sydney. Depending on the person, we would suggest using one or more of the following: laser treatment with the Candela GentleLase Pro, skin needling, and microdermabrasion.
SKIN PIGMENTATION REMOVAL WITH CANDELA GENTLELASE PRO
The Candela GentleLase Pro is our laser of choice for several different procedures available at Eden Laser Clinics Sydney, including laser hair removal. It works on age spots and pigmentation removal in the same way as it works for hair removal by targeting the melanin content of the skin. With an adjustable target size and fast treatment, the Candela GentleLase Pro is a market-leading option for tackling pigmentation on face blemishes, sun spots & unwanted freckles. However, it is not only hair removal and face pigmentation that can be corrected with the Candela GentleLase Pro; unwanted variations in skin tone elsewhere on the body can also be treated with the device, in response to a wide range of different causing factors.
SUBLATIVETM TECHNOLOGY TREATING ACNE SCARS
Radiofrequency (RF) is a lower intensity energy than laser, but travels through the skin differently, penetrating deep into the dermis without harming the epidermis. Laser treatments destroy 70% of the epidermal layer to get the energy to the site of the scar whereas Sublative only disrupts 5% of the epidermal layer.
The energy is creating the inflammatory response in the top dermal layer so it is subdermal and the scar tissue is remodeled underneath the skin. This effectively is ejecting the damaged collagen and replacing it with new collage. You heal from the inside out. From the diagram, you see the traditional laser ablative treatment lose energy as it penetrates the skin creating cone shape damage. With SublativeTM the RF energy enters the skin with small microscopic holes but the energy is strongest in the dermis creating an inverted cone. The delivery of this RF energy is what makes all the difference in remodeling scar tissue.
Things You Need to Know About Laser Pigmentation Removal
A laser can seem like a magic wand that can make any scar disappear. Medical lasers, however, are nothing to play with. To get impressive results and avoid serious side effects, it's important to know these basic facts before you have laser treatment for a scar.
Which laser shall I use to get rid of my pigmentation?
The selection of the appropriate laser depends on the character of their pigmentation, their skin type and their response to the treatment.
All lasers and light treatment have different wavelength and different focus of treatment.
The skin type also determines which laser is suitable for the individual skin, with the settings customised to the person being treated. Different individuals will also respond differently to the same treatment.
Let the doctor decide for you.
Doctors have medical training and experience to know which laser is suitable for their patients. They should let their doctor assess and decide for them the treatment that is appropriate for their skin condition.
Do I have more than one types of pigmentation on my face?
Most of us do not have only one type of pigmentation.
We can possess different types of pigmentation at different depth of the skin. Examples are melasma, freckles and lentigines. These will need different lasers to treat them effectively.
The photo below shows different levels of pigmentation. This will need several treatment sessions using different types of lasers to remove the pigmentation.
What are the types of lasers?
There are 2 main types of lasers. They are ablative lasers and non-ablative lasers.
There are also pigment lasers and vascular lasers which manages different types of pigmentation.
What are the differences between ablative and non-ablative lasers?
Ablative lasers will remove a superficial layer of the skin—for example, CO2 laser.
Whereas non-ablative lasers will treat the skin without damaging the skin surface, e.g. Yellow Laser.
As such, ablative lasers will have more downtime than non-ablative lasers
Are lasers painful?
For all laser treatments, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied on the area to be treated before the treatment to minimise discomfort.
The slight stinging or warm sensation may still be felt. However, the treatment is very well tolerated most of the time.
Can I combine different laser treatments in one session?
Yes, it is possible, and in fact, we often use a combination of lasers to ensure optimised and progressive improvement in our clinics.
